The Heart Behind Succotash

Succotash is a family business, owned and operated by husband-wife team, Juan & Sam DiGiulio, plus Juan's mom, Susan Head. This talented trio brings culinary expertise, financial know-how, artistic sensitivity, small business experience & social savvy to create a unique dining & cultural experience.

Before opening the restaurant in 2022, Juan, Sam & Susan launched the Succotash Food Truck in June 2018. Running the truck for 4 years enabled the team to hone their culinary identity . But the real beginning of Succotash was in South Louisiana where DiGiulio was born and raised. Growing up where the love of food and celebration is legendary, he was exposed early on to the art of great cooking.

From Roots to Plate: A Culinary Journey!
Chef Juan's fondest memories are of crawfish boils, family gatherings, and feasting at his family’s Italian restaurant. While the restaurant sparked his passion, he honed his skills in Baton Rouge, London, and San Miguel de Allende. Returning to Durham in 2007, he worked at top spots like Nana’s, Vin Rouge, Piedmont, and Namu. For DiGiulio, making food is in his blood, and serving it is all about love. His unique Southern and Creole cuisine showcases his heartfelt, passionate approach
